One Sterling's commitment to Health and Safety starts at the top level. Our Director Daniel Vineall Co-founder of One Sterling and Anthony Shillingford . The Operations Manager recognise that managing health and safety is vital for the strength of the business. Communication is key to creating the correct conditions for the culture to grow and enable everyone to work safely. As this is at the forefront of our business, all meetings at every level of the company start with health and safety.
One Sterling always strives for improvement, evaluating our processes and systems; we will not accept that there is not a better way of doing things. We aim to be leaders of our industry with a fresh forward thinking approach, researching best practice and seeking out innovations which will help us achieve our goals.
Action plans are produced annually setting smart objectives for Health, Safety and Environmental performance. These are regularly audited, reviewed and evaluated to ensure they are achieved and are still relevant to our requirements.
One Sterling believes a trained operative is best placed to make the correct decisions in undertaking work safely. Training is provided for all aspects of the company's operations, at every level. The company manages and maintains an all-inclusive training matrix to ensure all training is up to date and identifying any shortfalls. On site, daily activity briefings are held each morning and weekly tool box talks are undertaken.
Our health and safety monitoring is both proactive and reactive. All accidents, minor or otherwise are investigated and data recorded. Safety alerts and toolbox talks are issued based on any outcomes, and recorded statistics are used to set priorities for the following year.
Site inspections are regularly undertaken by our safety officer with reports issued and action points raised; these are followed up and closed out by senior management. Our site supervisors also undertake weekly site inspections and all of our sites are monitored and scored on health, safety and performance by senior management. These scores are discussed monthly at the management meeting with supervisors and a league table produced.
One Sterling operates a near miss reporting system; we see this proactive monitoring system as a major tool to engage the workforce, raising awareness in the working environment, where dangerous situations are identified and others unsafe actions are challenged to further improve safety in the workplace.
One Sterling understands the importance of giving opportunities for young people to enter our industry. We have a dedicated Apprenticeship Leader who mentors our apprentices, guiding them for a further 2 years after they have completed their 3 year college qualification. We strongly believe by investing in our apprentices we are investing in the success and future of the company, and we have former apprentices who are now in supervisory positions.
Qualified apprentices have the opportunity to further their education by undertaking a Higher National Certificate and degrees, which can lead on to a fully sponsored graduate programme. We recognise excellence and hold annual Apprentice Awards.
